In 1989, Barbara Mowat of Impact Communications Ltd. created the first juried Uniquely B.C. Creative
Arts Show to assist home-based businesses market their products to wholesale buyers from around the world. The concept for the Uniquely Programs came out of a desire to help micro and small businesses grow. These efforts were recognized by Barbara winning the 1993 Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Impact on the Local Economy, sponsored by the Bank of Montreal, and presented by the Rotman School of Management.
The "Uniquely" program, has proven to be a "Best Practices" model. In Canada, over fifty programs have been produced, providing marketplace access for thousands of micro and small producers. Adaptable to the specific needs of individual countries, elements of the program have been modified for countries in South East Asia, South America, Africa and Eastern Europe.
In the "Uniquely" business model, small business owners have their products evaluated by design and merchandising experts in order to help them improve their marketability.
Now UniquelyCanada.com will offer a special section called "Uniquely Global" to continue to help micro and small businesses from developing countries. We will consistently feature an exceptional selection of:
